Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV) is setting the record straight regarding B’nai Brith Canada’s slanderous press release attacking IJV for “Holocaust denial”. B’nai Brith Canada’s idiotic claim should demonstrate to the public and its own dwindling base of supporters how dishonest an organization it has become.
In 2015 IJV provided a social media link to an article written by the widely-respected journalist and Mid-East expert Alan Hart entitled, “A truth most Jews don’t want to know about anti-Semitism”. Like Hart, IJV strongly condemns anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial of any kind.
Unlike Hart, IJV rejects 9-11 conspiracy theories.*
Hart’s article was re-published on a website called Veterans Today which upon further examination proved to be an extremely disreputable site that engages in wild conspiracy theory and Holocaust debunking. The editor at Veterans Today inserted a note into the article denying the number of Jews exterminated in the concentration camps that we find repugnant.
We thoughtlessly linked to Hart’s article on the Veterans Today site. We acknowledge that our oversight in this respect was lax: we didn’t verify the nature of the Veteran’s Today website, and we didn’t examine the Editor’s note. For that, we apologize to our members and supporters for our carelessness. IJV has now removed that link.
We hold ourselves to high political and ethical standards. We advocate rigorous, factual discussion and debate on Israel and Palestine. B’nai Brith Canada, in contrast, adopts Israel’s tactics for combating solidarity for Palestinian human rights — avoid debating the issues of Israel’s occupation and treatment of Palestinians, slander Israel’s critics as “anti-Semitic”, and shame Jews who support Palestinian human rights.
B’nai Brith should clean their own house. Under long-time leader Frank Dimant, the organization established close relations with Christian fundamentalists Charles McVety and John Hagee. Both believe that North America should be Judenrein (empty of Jews). Hagee believes God sent Hitler to help the Jews reach Israel.
Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV) is a national human rights organization whose mandate is to promote a just resolution to the conflict in Israel and Palestine through the application of international law and respect for the human rights of all parties. There are currently ten chapters of IJV in cities across the country, in addition to a growing number of student clubs on major university campuses. IJV supports the right of Canadians to criticize and challenge the current laws and policies of the State of Israel, including through the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.
