Stop The JNF Canada/US Campaign!
Please raise your voices to renounce past support of the Jewish National Fund (JNF)!
As some of you know, one aspect of the current Stop The JNF Campaign is the launch of a website for “Fallen Donors,” a place for people who have previously supported the JNF to revoke their support and give audio, video, and written testimony about the reasons for their revocation. The site has not yet launched but if you go to http://fallendonors.org you will find the petition and the very beginnings of the site.
We are hoping that the site will include interactive maps that show people all the JNF sites and the villages that were once there, as well as help build some connections between the years and countries in which people purchased (or had purchased for them) trees, and what parks those might correspond to. We are in touch with Zochrot about providing links from our site to some such maps on theirs.
The JNF Canada, incorporated in Canada in 1910, raises approximately $10 million tax-deductible dollars a year in Canada, including funds raised for Ayalon/Canada Park, built on the ruins of three Palestinian villages in the West Bank that were destroyed after the Nakseh or 1967 war. We are hoping to raise awareness about this and many other crimes perpetrated by the JNF, and the “Fallen Donors” website is one more way to further expose them.
We are collecting testimonies from those who have previously supported the JNF (whether through their own will, or through family members or friends making donations in their name), and who now wish to make public their renunciation of support.
How to submit a testimony:
We’re writing to invite you to contribute such testimony, in written form, video form, or both.
We’re hoping to have written testimonies run in the range of 250 to 500 words, and video testimonies run no more than 1 1/2 minutes in length.
If you are interested in submitting a testimony in written or video form, please consider doing so in the coming two to three weeks, as we are hoping to upload the first batch in that time.
Please consider the following in crafting your testimony:
1. When you first heard of the JNF or who first introduced you to the JNF
2. What initially made you want to donate to the JNF or under what circumstances you donated money to the JNF (Hebrew school, relatives donating in your name following a bar/bat mitzvah or a death in family, etc.)
3. When you learned about the JNF’s role in the Nakba and/or in the ongoing dispossession of Palestinians’ land
4. What JNF parks or projects your contributions helped fund (if you know… and if you don’t know, how that impacts your thinking about or relationship to the JNF)
5. Why you’re now choosing to renounce the JNF, and why you believe it’s important for other former donors to do so as well
Thank you all for considering contributing to this project. Please post written testimonies directly into the form on the “Submit a Testimony” page of the Fallen Donors site. Video testimonies can be e-mailed as QuickTime projects (.mov files) to Sylvia Schwarz of IJAN Twin Cities at firstname.lastname@example.org — If you are looking for a videographer or help getting a video made, email Sue Goldstein in Toronto at email@example.com or Tyler Levitan in Ottawa at firstname.lastname@example.org
All the best, and looking forward to hearing from you,
Fallen Donors working group
