Independent Jewish Voices-Canada declares its solidarity with the Shministim, Israeli high school graduates who been subjected to repeated jail terms for their principled refusal to serve in the IDF because of the ongoing Israeli occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.
IJV-C calls for their immediate and unconditional release, without threat of further imprisonment. The imprisonment of conscientious objectors is a violation of basic human rights.
The nonviolent resistance of movements such as the Shministim is the best hope for ending the occupation and bringing about a just peace for both Israelis and Palestinians.
